The Outcome of Different Surgical Conditions in Neonates at A Tertiary Care Hospital: A Cross-Sectional Study

Aim: To determine the outcome of different surgical conditions in neonates at a tertiary care hospital Study design: A cross-sectional study Place and Duration: Department Pediatric Surgery Chandka Medical College Children’s Larkana from Nov 2020 to 2021 Methodology: All with were admitted through emergency OPD. The variables age, gender, diagnosis, surgery performed, postoperative course complications if any. Patients soon after birth 28 days age neonatal enrolled study. diagnosis was established either pre-operative, intra-operative or post-operatively relevant clinical, radiological, biochemical histopathological findings described standard textbooks paediatric Results: total 208 patients managed. range 1 hour days. Male 159 (76.4%) 49 (23.6%) female. commonest presented anorectal malformations followed by necrotizing enterocolitis. Other include Hirschsprung’s Disease, Omphalocele, Gastroschisis, Duodenal Jejuno ileal Atresia, Myelomeningocele, Infantile Hypertrophic Pyloric Stenosis, Obstructed Inguinal Hernias, sacrococcygeal teratoma skin soft tissue infections. Frequently performed operation creation stoma (Colostomy/Ileostomy). 180 (86.53%) discharged 24 (11.53%) expired while only 4 (1.92%) referred other centers. Conclusion: Neonatal carry high mortality morbidity even centers all facilities available. Our results resource-limited centre are comparable centres having state art facilities.
